The Bay Area English Regency Society (BAERS)
is pleased to present
an Early American July 10, 2009 in Palo Alto
Celebrating the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, you can
dance like Thomas Jefferson or Dolley Madison - enjoy music and dances from
the early years of the United Sates, between 1776 and 1815 - at our
casual-dress dance party.
The Bay Area English Regency Society sponsors informal (casual dress) dance
parties at St. Mark's Episcopal Church (600 Colorado Avenue, a block and a half
West of Middlefield, in Palo Alto) on the second Friday of each month (except
January, August, and December). Most months we focus on dances from Jane
Austen's England.
Admission $8. All dances taught or prompted, usually by Alan Winston (an
excellent beginner-friendly caller who has led country dancing in 10 states
and two countries).
Newcomers welcome, no experience necessary, no partners required - the custom
in the late 1700s was was to change partners frequently - live music. Casual
dress. Wear shoes you can dance in. Doors open at 7:45; dancing begins at
8:00 and continues (with a mid-evening break) until 10:30. Some light
refreshments are provided; contributed refreshments are welcome.
