The Bay Area English Regency Dance Society (www.baers.org) Presents:
The Great Regency Shipwreck Ball (or "Regency Survivor")
We can't get off this island, so we might as well entertain ourselves!
Caller Alan Winston (who led the Pride and Prejudice Ball this March) with
The Divertimento Dance Orchestra (who'll play at the Emerald City Ball in July)
Saturday June 21, 2008 8:00-11:30pm
Arlington Church (52 Arlington Ave, Kensington, CA)
The Divertimento Orchestra will provide jolly music. The marooned elite, in
any remaining finery, are invited to dance arm-in-arm with the ships'
captain and crew. Meet up at 8PM sharp aboard the ruins for dance, drink
and good company!
Come as you are, whether Passenger, Pirate, Native, Merfolk or member of Her
Majesty's Royal Navy. If your wardrobe was relocated to Davy Jones' Locker
during the fateful storm, fashion yourself new togs from local flora (grass
skirts are all the rage among the natives!).
We've made peace with the island inhabitants and the merfolk in the bay, so
we will feast with them on seafood, fresh fruits, springwater and provisions
salvaged from the hold. The contribution of exotic new delicacies from
forays inland are welcome - as long as *you* have already tried them first.
Subscriptions are $20 at the door, $15 in advance.
$2 discount for GBACG, and BACDS members.
Advance mail registrations must be received by us no later than June 18th.
Costumes admired but not required. All dances taught during the ball. No
partner required.
Make out checks to "BAERS", and send them to

Re: BAERS Great Regency Shipwreck Ball - June 21, 2008, Kensington, CA
Mon, June 16, 2008 - 4:46 PMJust in case some of us try to find the Shipwreck instead of the Folk fling, is this the correct map location? When searching for that address, Google turns it into "Berkeley" instead of "Kensington".
maps.google.com/maps
Also, if arriving from the East, what are the best exits/directions? Would be quite a waste to end up stranded on some other isle or on a three hour tour and miss most of the dance.
Thanks! -

Fri, June 20, 2008 - 5:56 PMSorry to reply so late - I was out of town with limited internet connectivity at night, which was when I would
have had time to check tribe.
I'm back now.
Your Google Maps link appears to be correct, and the photograph is definitely of the right location. (The side of the road that isn't the parking lot is the church.) It's news to me that Google thinks this is Berkeley; all our correspondence with the church has said "Kensington" and nobody ever told us we were wrong
For directions:
Coming from East _or_ West, the clearest way to do this is to take 80 to Central, go East on Central (inland, away from the Bay).
Follow Central to San Pablo (where the Nations Burger is), go LEFT on San Pablo.
Watch signs for Moeser, and turn right there. (I think it's about a mile; might be less). Follow Moeser up the steep hill,
and look out for Arlington Avenue. There's a right-turn pocket (like a mini-off-ramp) for turning right onto Arlington; take it.
You'll then be heading downhill a few blocks, and the church will be on your right. You can park on the street in front of
the church, or in the parking lot across from the church.
